Terms of Service
Effective June 5, 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and deb8, Inc. ("deb8", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using deb8 (the "Service") you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Community Guidelines. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country, if higher) to use deb8. By using it you represent that you meet this requirement and are not barred from doing so under applicable law.
3. Your account
You may register using a supported identity provider (e.g. Google or Facebook). You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your login secure. Don't impersonate others or create accounts to evade enforcement.
4. How deb8 works
deb8 is a public discussion platform built around one principle: ideas are free; behavior has standards. You may express a wide range of viewpoints. We moderate conduct — not opinions — as described in the Community Guidelines, which are incorporated into these Terms.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- harass, threaten, or attack people (as opposed to ideas);
- post unlawful content, including child sexual abuse material, credible threats, non-consensual intimate imagery, or content facilitating serious crime;
- publish others' private information (doxxing);
- spam, run bots, manipulate rankings, or engage in coordinated abuse;
- infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights;
- probe, scrape at scale, overload, or interfere with the Service or its security.
6. Your content & license
You own the content you post. By posting, you grant deb8 a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt (e.g. transcribe, summarize, excerpt for clips), and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. Because deb8 is a public platform, content you post to public topics is visible to others and may be indexed. This license ends when you delete your content, except for residual copies in backups and content others have already shared or relied upon.
7. Moderation, automated tools & transparency
Content is primarily moderated by the community through reputation-weighted flags. Posts that cross a flag threshold are collapsed with a visible reason rather than silently removed; we do not shadow-ban. We may also use automated tools narrowly to detect unlawful or safety-critical content (for example, image hash-matching for CSAM and classifiers for threats). We do not use automated tools to suppress viewpoints. We may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these Terms, and we offer an appeal at support@deb8.io.
8. Reporting & DMCA (copyright)
To report a violation, use the in-product flag controls or email support@deb8.io. If you believe content infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at dmca@deb8.io including: identification of the work, the infringing URL, your contact details, a good-faith statement, a statement under penalty of perjury that you are authorized, and your signature. We respond to valid notices and counter-notices under the DMCA and may remove content and terminate repeat infringers. (⚠ deb8, Inc. must register a DMCA agent with the U.S. Copyright Office to claim safe harbor.)
9. Third-party content, sources & data
deb8 lets users reference external entities and ingest links (articles, posts). It also pulls factual data from third-party sources (e.g. CoinGecko, Wikipedia, The Movie DB, Open Library). We don't control, endorse, or guarantee third-party content, and linking to or summarizing a source is not an endorsement. Community fact-check labels reflect users' evidence-weighted judgment, not an official determination by deb8.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Content on deb8 is user-generated and does not constitute professional, legal, financial, medical, or investment advice. You rely on it at your own risk.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, deb8, Inc. and its affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past 12 months or USD $100.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold deb8, Inc. harmless from claims arising out of your content or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms or the Guidelines, or as required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive (e.g. licenses for already-shared content, disclaimers, liability limits) survive termination.
14. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located there, unless a separate arbitration agreement applies. (⚠ Consider an arbitration / class-action-waiver clause with counsel.)
15. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in-product or by email, and the updated date will appear above. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
